Latest on Paiwat

Mod's email dated 28 September 2010

Dear P'Ying, P'Udomsri, and P'Phongsak,
Thank you so much for the mails kha. I've been under the weather with the flu for the past couple of days but I'm happy to report that the second operation went well.
The nurse took him to the operation room at 8.30 and he got out at 11.12. I got to talk to the neurosurgeon both before and after the operation. He said that P'Paiwat's condition should improve somewhat since he's put the tube to drain both the front part of the brain and the back to ensure more regulation of the spinal fluid. I walked back to P'Paiwat's room with him to make sure that he's comfortable. I didn't dare staying too long for fear of spreading the cold. After a long rest yesterday, I feel much better today and have come to work as usual.
For one thing, P'Paiwat is now very alert and has been trying to pull out the tube at every opportunity he gets. As a result, Nop has to pay more attention:) He can also move his legs much more than before the operation. Next step will be sitting up in bed, on his own, and taking a walk. Until then we won't know for sure if he'll be back to normal.
P'Panit dropped by on Sunday with fruits that P'Paiwat enjoyed very much. He's not too fond of hospital food but the fruits are another matter. Even though the tube is still in place, the doctors encourage feeding through the mouth as well. I've noticed that the first bite was the most difficult. P'Paiwat takes a long time to open his mouth. But once he's decided to eat, it's all in a roll. The neurosurgeon said that if there' no complication such as infections, P'Paiwat should be able to go home very soon.
P'Ying kha, how's P'Woody doing?
My cell number is 081-615-7597 kha P'Phongsak.

Paiwat Progress

Dear P'Chuvej and P'Lin,
Thank you so much for visiting P'Paiwat today. Nop told me that P'Paiwat was sound asleep when you were there. I went to sign the consent form before noon and had to leave right away for appointments at Kaset. I went there again just before 8 pm. P'Paiwat was asleep but his hands are now fully active. Nop reported that he pulled out the tube twice during the afternoon. But his legs are still weak. His temperature was down to normal after the morning wash. When I was at hospital during the day, I enquired about the vacant bed in Rm 203 and found out that it's out of commissioned. Rm 203 used to be a single special room but had to be converted to accommodate 2 beds when the number of patients increased. Now one of the empty rooms is to be refurbished into a 3-bed room while Rm 203 will be back to a one-bed room. It's kind of confusing but that's the way it is. So I'm still waiting for a special room in other buildings, maily ภปร.
I have classes all day on Saturday so won't get to the hospital until after 5 pm kha.
Nop has asked for a day off on Sunday but I have an appointment at Kaset in the afternoon. I'll try to get out of it if I can.

Paiwat recent operation

On 19/9/2010 Mod wrote

Dear All,
It's been finalized. P'Paiwat is going back to Chula Hospital for another operation kha. After getting the second opinion, his elder sister and I had decided to take P'Paiwat to Chula Hospital tomorrow. The operation will be on Monday. This time it's the shunt that was implanted in his skull to regulate the spinal fluid that's been malfunctioned. The operation is to replaced the shunt kha. It's expected to eleviate P'Paiwat's inability to move somewhat. The doctor couldn't guarantee that it will work 100%. But we hope that it will at least help his brain to function better.
Will keep you all posted kha.

Mod's message 20/9/2010

Dear All,
I'm very thankful for all the kind messages you've been sending. They keep me going from day to day.
I'm also very happy to report that P'Paiwat has just had the operation. It's been pushed forward to tonight since the neurosurgeon is going to be busy tomorrow with two cases. His resident apprentice has kindly suggested that P'Paiwat's conditions could worsen if they postponed the operation. At first I thought I might have to take P'Paiwat home again when one of the residents came to talk to me in the pre-admission office. He wasn't one of the neurosurgeon team that visited P'Paiwat in the ER, hence, not very friendly nor very understanding.
Luckily, P'Paiwat's elder sister has asked one of the team for her cell number. So I called her and she put things in motion, albeit rather slowly. But I'm not complaining. P'Paiwat went into the operation room before 8 pm and came out just before 10 pm, with both eyes puffy and the oxygen mask on his nose. Nop and I followed the two technician who wheeled the bed with P'Paiwat in it back to his room in ¸¹Ò¤ÒáÃا෾ building, room 210, bed 1. It's a shared room so Nop cannot stay overnight. We waited till 10.30 to make sure that P'Paiwat was resting comfortably before we left. This ward is for neurosurgery cases and not a very large one--only 29 beds and all in shared rooms. Even the toilet and the bathrooms are shared. The visiting is between 10 am to 8 pm.
Tomorrow P'Paiwat might be able to move to a special room if his younger sister could get in touch with the hospital director and a special is available for him. Usually the director has a room quota at his disposal. Today is very full for patients waiting for a room. Some were told not to come to the hospital because of the room shortage.
So I consider myself very lucky, to be able to get P'Paiwat a room and an operation, with the help of the two aspiring residents. I'm sure they will become very good neurosurgeons in the future.
Will keep you posted about P'Paiwat's room tomorrow kha.
In the meantime, have a good night.

TATSC-AGM

More photos.

Thai-Australian Technological Services Centre

Wichit has kept us up-to-date with the AGM on 29th August 2010. The speaker was none other than Chatchai Somsiri (sorry if wrong spelling). Great to see so many familiar faces shown in the photos.
